PORTUGAL ALQUEVA PROJECT. Caliços-Moura Water Transfer Channel and respective Irrigation Blocks; Baleizão-Quintos Hydraulic Pipelines and respective Irrigation Block
A consortium of which COBA is a member has by awarded two contracts by EDIA (managing company of the Alqueva multipurpose project):
- Final Design and Environmental Impact Studies of the Caliços-Moura water transfer channel and respective irrigation blocks. These are part of the Ardila system, in the municipalities of Serpa and Moura, of the Alqueva Multipurpose Project. The irrigation blocks will benefit an area of about 3.823 ha.
The Caliços-Moura irrigation perimeter encompasses four blocks: Moura Gravítico, Moura Emparcelamento, Coutos de Moura and Brenhas and the respective primary and secondary water transfer and water pumping infrastructures.
Nearby the left bank of the Ardila river, at the Horta da Vargem place, a pumping station that will benefit an area of about 931 ha is to constructed.
The studies also include the technical, economic and environmental feasibility studies of the Brenhas dam construction.
The second contract concernes the Fnal Design Environmental Impact Studies of the Baleizão-Quintos and respective Irrigation Block, that consists of primary water pipelines, regulating and control reservoirs, secondary irrigation networks (including all intake, transport and distribution infrastructures), road and drainage networks over an area of some 8500 ha.
It also includes the automatic and remote control of the primary and secondary network.
This block is an integral part of the Pedrógão subsystem of the Alqueva Multipurpose Project and will be benefited by the S. Pedro-Baleizão hydraulic pipeline.
The project area is located in the Beja municipality.
